How you can join an ESOL class

Click on the link for the area where you live to apply for an ESOL assessment:

Check your postcode here!

You will need to complete a short application. We will then contact you to arrange an assessment for an ESOL class in your local area.

We don’t currently have an ESOL Hub in Tameside.

There are lots of ways to practise English while you are waiting for your assessment or for a place on a course.

Useful information about ESOL courses

Find out more about things you may need to think about before you join an ESOL course here.

We have also answered a few questions we often get asked:

When will my course start?

Do I have to pay?

Can I study with my friend or family member?

Can I study near my home?

Can I miss classes to collect my children from school?

Can I change my timetable?

ESOL Advice Sessions

If you wish to join an ESOL class but you are not able to complete an online application, you will need to make an appointment to have an assessment in your local area.

Watch the video which explains the assessment at an ESOL Advice session.  We follow the same process in Manchester, Rochdale, Salford, Bury, Oldham, Trafford, Stockport, Bolton and Wigan.  You only need ONE assessment for any of the ESOL courses in these areas of Greater Manchester.

A teacher will ask you a few questions about yourself, where and when you can study and may ask you to read and write a little if you can. This will help us decide which class is good for you. You will need 30 minutes to do the assessment. You can bring a friend or a family member with you for support if you wish.
